On November 1, two leaders in the JFCS of Southern Arizona team were recognized for their achievements and dedication.

Carlos A. Hernández, President & CEO, received the Ben and Betty Brook Community Professional of the Year award. Carlos rose to the challenges of COVID-19 by expanding services, such as emergency financial assistance to the broader community and offering telehealth services quickly and effectively to keep clients safe. In his acceptance speech, Carlos recognizes the hard work of JFCS staff, many of whom diligently provided therapy, in-home services, and other direct services to clients throughout the pandemic. This work is difficult, with compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and the risk of contracting COVID-19all challenges that staff have faced over the past year.

I cannot accept this award without acknowledging and commending the many brave staff of JFCS who work tirelessly every day to help those who come to our organization for help.” Carlos A. Hernández

Thank you, Carlos, for your inspiring leadership, and congratulations on the Ben and Betty Brook Community Professional of the Year Award!

James Gierke, Chair-Elect of the JFCS Board of Directors, also received recognition at the event. His Special Recognition Award acknowledges James’ dedication and outstanding service. With the hard work that James has done for JFCS, our clients, and the broader community, and his energetic and innovative approaches to fundraising and services, this recognition is well deserved!
