Anna is a 6-year-old who witnessed the murder of her brother at home. The once happy child became withdrawn, refused meals, and she often woke up screaming from nightmares. Anna was referred to Project Safe Place for trauma-informed psychotherapy.
“Moving the tiny furniture in a doll’s house without people, the little girl began to whisper words that conveyed bits and pieces of her memories. With the guidance of the therapist, Anna was able to process her feelings of sadness and fear. Now she hums to herself as she plays, and the doll house has a tiny family in it.”
If left untreated, emotional trauma like Anna’s can have lifelong effects on a child’s cognitive and social development, which can lead to destructive behaviors, mental disorders, and huge societal costs. Many of the children who come to Project Safe Place live below the poverty level. They need your help!
