Biography

Melissa Zimmerman, Vice President of Clinical Services for Jewish Family & Children’s Services, oversees behavioral health programs that provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions to Tucson and Southern Arizona communities. These JFCS clinical programs include Project Safe Place – specialized therapy free of charge to victims of crime and emotional trauma; Family Preservation—in-home counseling, parent training, and support services; Wellness and Support Services for Holocaust Survivors and their family members, as well as JFCS’ Mental Health Counseling Services for children, adults, families and seniors from all walks of life.

Before joining JFCS Melissa served as Director of Adult Services for Intermountain Centers in Tucson. Prior to this she oversaw therapeutic residential programs serving at-risk children and adolescents in her role as Clinical Director of Residential Services and later as Director of the Assessment and Intervention Center.

Melissa brings with her a strong background in program development for adult outpatient services, community-based therapeutic programs for at-risk children and adolescents, and intensive in-home services. She has also developed trainings on various topics such as trauma-informed care and suicide prevention.

Melissa earned a Master of Social Work degree at the University of Denver and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Arizona. A licensed clinician who is passionate about trauma-informed care, Melissa is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and member of the Southern Arizona Trauma Informed Network. In addition, Melissa is a certified field instructor for MSW interns through Arizona State University and Boston University.
